The annual Celebrity Football Match is set to take place in May at Hyde’s Ewen Fields stadium, featuring celebrities from shows like Love Island and Emmerdale.

The match will be contested between Salford Saxons v Once Upon A Smile Charity on 25th May 2019.

Celebrities such as; Love Island’s Dom Lever, Emmerdale star Daniel Jillings, former-Coronation Street’s Ryan Clayton and many more, will be taking part on the day.

This is the 6th year which the Celebrity Football Match will take place.

Paul Hughes, event organiser, said: “After my Mother-in Law Marsha Rigby and one of my best friends Peter Hughes had gone through numerous battles with cancer, I wanted to arrange an event, in which we could give something back.

“Peter runs a local football team Winsford Saxons, and it was arranged for his team to take on my team from Salford, just a group of friends wanting to make a difference. The 1st event took place in February 2015.”

In 2017, the fundraising match managed to raise over £5000 for Once Upon A Smile.

Mr Hughes described his ‘aim was always to get to a stadium.’ In that particular year, 600 people paid to watch the Celebrity Football Event.

He said: “This time around raising funds for Once Upon a Smile, who help families who have suffered from bereavement.  Painfully for my family during the build up to the event my niece tragically lost her twin baby boys after being born prematurely.

“This gave me more reason to make our event a success in memory of my nephews Riley and Radley and now the trophy each year is named after the boys.”

Paul Hughes will be promoting a Football Card on all social media channels ‘hoping to find an official sponsor for the 6th event and a new Salford Saxons kit sponsor.’

Tickets will be on sale on 7th January 2019. Adults will be £6, children will be £4 and under 2’s go free. Information for the tickets will be found on the Facebook page or Eventbrite.

He added: “Each year me and my wife work hard around our work and family time making sure our Event is bigger, better each year and that my nephews will never be forgotten.

“So many people are involved in making the event more special each time.  It is one day in the year my friends and family meet up from Salford to Winsford and celebrate how much we have raised.”

This year there will also be a VIP after party for everyone who attends the match.
