PRIMARK has withdrawn a candle from sale after a complaint by a Manchester mum went viral on Facebook.
Jenny Ferneyhough, mum of three from Manchester, bought a candle for £5 from Primark on Market Street, on Saturday.
Once lit she noticed the candle develop into “massive flames” after a short hour of burning on Saturday night.
She said: “We were watching TV and suddenly noticed the whole top had lit up.
“We immediately blew it out, but then decided to relight it, as we thought it might settle down once the wick was further down and the edges were further from the wick.
“It was fine for several hours after being re-lit but then ultimately lit up again.”
Jenny, a Manchester City Council benefits officer, explained that they did this a couple of times, but eventually it seemed quite dangerous so they decided to take the photo to raise awareness and share it to Facebook.
The post since has had over 260,000 shares on the social media site Facebook and has also been shared on Twitter, where people are contacting Primark in disgust.

Jenny did not think she would get this kind of reaction on Facebook.
“I definitely didn’t expect to get the kind of reaction I have on social media, but it has had the desired outcome.
“My husband went into Primark at lunchtime (yesterday) to see if the candles were still there and overheard a mum telling her daughter that she had seen a candle on Facebook and that they were dangerous.
“I’ve had a lot of people telling me that they will now not buy these candles or return them.”
A spokesperson from Primark has since said the product is being removed from sale, while the complaint is investigated “as a matter of urgency”.
Jenny will now think about candles that are covered in glitter: “I probably won’t be in a hurry to buy a candle from Primark again, but I will still buy cheap candles.
“I will just be even more wary of candles covered in glitter.”
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service have said: “We have been made aware of this and we have informed our protection team. We will be following it up with them this morning.
“In the meantime, if you have any concerns about fire safety, we have a section regarding fire safety on our website.”
Studies have found that in 2015/16 around 6% of all fire related casualties were caused by candles.
This Christmas candle has now been taken off the shelves in Primark on Market Street.
Primark is not the only company that has had to recall faulty candles. Matalan, Yankee Candles and Kikki-K have all had candle recalls in the past and consumers are having to take extra care when using their products.
