Manchester’s iconic drive-in cinema has arrived in Salford, ready for Valentine’s day to showcase a variety classic, romantic movies.

Fans of classic movies like Toy Story, The Notebook and Dirty Dancing will be played on the world’s largest mobile LED screen at the AJ Bell Stadium in Eccles, brought to the public by Key 103.

The last date the cinema is open is Wednesday 14th February as the first of four planned seasonal events throughout the year comes to an end. The event returned following a successful showcase series for Halloween 2017.

The heart-wrenching film, ‘The Notebook‘ will be shown on Valentine’s Day at 8pm.

Quays News spoke to Thomas Taylor, one of the event organizers to find out more about the drive-in cinema.

Thomas said: “this event is really unique, you can’t just go every day, it is purely a one-off event to bring a little nostalgia.

“With what you’ve got with watching films at home they’re all new films. With this drive-in cinema is a retro, American cinema that appeals to everyone.”

Thomas also explained a little more how the drive-in cinema actually works: “We provide an FM transmitter which sends a signal from the screen to the car stereo. We then tell all our customers to tune into a specific signal and they can enjoy the film through their own car steroes.”

Tickets cost £25 per car with up to five people inside and all vehicles will need a working FM radio to be able to tune in to hear the film, so £5 each. Concessions can be bought on site so you are urged to arrive around 30 minute’s before your movie is set to start to stock up on snacks and burgers. Toilets are available on site for all customers. The company aren’t stopping there,  later on this year there will be drive-in showcases for action-packed  May 4th: Superhero films, scary films at Halloween and, of course, festive films at Christmas.

So, if you fancy a bit of nostalgia or a 50’s themed date, the drive-in cinema might be the perfect place to take your special someone!
