Eccles tram line

Eccles tram line is set to reopen on October 21 after being closed for more than three months.

The line closed back in July for reworks, offering replacement buses for commuters between Eccles and Manchester.

Members of public frequently have complained about the service’s infrequency and availability.

Salford resident, Sean Towey, said: “I didn’t see it as a negative since the temporary buses have been put in place for part of the journey. The buses are prompt and frequent and had no delays.”

Mr Towey said: “The main issue on the trams was frequency and the number of the carriages in the evenings between 17:00 – 19:00.”

Trams on other lines such as Altrincham and East Didsbury are roughly six minutes apart with a couple of carriages, whereas MediaCityUK and Eccles is roughly 12 minutes apart with only one carriage that, he says, is always filled with people by the time it gets to Cornbrook.

Andy Burnham’s transport director took to Twitter announcing new services in the new year and adding larger vehicles to meet the demands of rush hour traffic.
