An Eccles business has reached the finals of the North West’s ‘Rising Star Award’ in a national contest for business start-ups.

Marcus Wright, 35, started MW Coaching to help businesses with their LQBTQ+ messaging, mindset and coaching.

Mr Wright decided he wanted to link his knowledge in life coaching with his experiences with the LGBTQ+ community.

In response to the nomination in the StartUp Awards, he said: “This panel of judges who know nothing about my business whatsoever, have seen potential with it and have seen that there is actually a need for this type of business.

“[The judges of the awards] see the value in what I do, even if it is just spread over a few weeks. They have seen that value and to bring me forward to be a finalist is absolutely phenomenal.”

Mr Wright opened MW Coaching after training as a life coach during lockdown. He continued: “It’s something that I’ve been wanting to sort out, something to do with either life coaching or coaching other people for many years.”

He said: “I’ve already had a few appointments in different community centres and around the area and it’s just massively exploded.

“It’s great to be able to connect with different communities. I connected with a community of vulnerable people who were holding an LGBTQ history month. I went there and did a talk on LGBTQ+ history, we went through some of the final details and then did some myth-busting and brought down some stereotypes as well.

“We ended the session with some mindset coaching as well how we can look at our past experiences and look at them from a different lens, and the feedback was just phenomenal.

“You have the ability to shine bright yourself, you’ve just got to maybe dig down a little bit and allow it to shine.”
