Salford has been recognised as the top-performing local authority for NHS Health Check delivery.
The city has ranked first out of 153 local authorities in England for NHS Health Check delivery over the past 12 months and has now been shortlisted for a prestigious health award. The winners are set to be announced on November 19 2026.
A partnership between Salford City Council, Salford Integrated Care Partnership and NHS Greater Manchester have helped more residents identify health risks earlier and access support to improve their health and wellbeing.
One resident shared that after he attended his health check, he was made aware that his blood pressure was high and encouraged to get in touch with his GP.
He said: “I was told my blood pressure was dangerously high and that I had malignant hypertension. After various tests, my blood pressure is now under control with medication. I am profoundly grateful to the health check team, as the hospital told me I could have had a stroke.”
Local organisations have implemented a range of initiatives to improve access, increase uptake and ensure more people can benefit from early intervention to prevent long-term health issues.

“This success reflects the outstanding partnership working taking place across Salford to improve health outcomes for residents. By working together, we have increased access to NHS Health Checks and helped more people identify health risks early and access the support they need.”

The winners will be announced at the HSJ Awards ceremony on Thursday November 19 2026.
