A new photography and illustration exhibition focussing on the realities of living in a consumerist society is coming to Salford.

Supermarket Streets is a collaborative exhibition from artist Emma Evans and Sprechen Music’s Chris Massey which comes to MediaCity’s ‘Kiosk’ creative space this evening (Thursday 25 May).

The exhibition focusses on Chris’ experiences of questioning life, after seeing a discarded shopping trolley on its side in a burst of bluebells and trees in Reddish Vale Country Park.

Chris began to ponder the feeling of the ‘grind’ in modern society, and whether these trolleys were truly ‘free’.

A conversation with artist and illustrator Emma Evans developed the story even further with Emma taking Chris’ many photos of a seemingly grim look at the current life of these discarded shopping carts and focusing on the positives of this stage in their journey.

Music for the event will be provided by Sticky Heat and Supernature resident DJs as well as complimentary drinks by Manchester Union, Boothstown Gin & more TBA. Limited prints by Evans and Massey will also be available to purchase on the night.

Tickets for the exhibition are free and assailable via Skiddle.
