After a poor run of results and injuries, Salford City boss Neil Wood spoke ahead of their trip to North Yorkshire to face fellow League Two strugglers Harrogate Town.

The Ammies are looking to end their run of four straight defeats in the league, but face a huge task with the amount of injuries Neil Wood’s side have had following the disappointing home tie with Notts County last weekend.

The injury list includes Callum Hendry and Ossama Ashley, with the latter going off during the Notts County game, Wood said: “It was a surprise, he has been in hospital since we still do not know the extent of his injury but hopefully we will in the coming days.

“We feared the worst, that [Callum Hendry]’s done his Anterior Cruciate Ligament, but the tests show he’s only done his Medial Collateral Ligament. He’s still going to be out for a while. It’s a big blow to us and for him. We have to keep him in good spirits to come back even stronger.”

With Salford having two games in the space of four days, Wood said: “There is no time to sit around and feel sorry for ourselves. We have to keep battling forward, they both are important games and bring different challenges.”

Harrogate have been on a poor run of games themselves, currently sit below Salford in the League Two table but remain a tough test.

“Harrogate are a physical team who are also athletic and fast going forward, so it will be a game we need to prepare for in the right way”.

On recent results not going Salford’s way, Wood added: “Yes its been a slump, but in 1 or 2 we should have got more out of the game, it’s been fine margins, injuries also have not helped our situation.

“You see in this league and other leagues, teams can start slow or have a bad run, there are teams like this every season, take Stockport for example last season. Were only 7 games in and we can rescue it, its a long season and its about where you are after 46 games”.

When asked if he worries about the pressure he’s under, Neil Wood said: “The only pressure is on myself, at the end of the day its down to my players to perform, and it’s about everyone else to come down and get behind the players.

“We have a lot of experienced coaches at the club which can keep improving players and make the situation better.”

Salford visit Wetherby Road this Saturday, with kick-off at 3pm.
