The Ammies have had a difficult start to the season, sitting in 21st in the league with Neil Woods’ side facing five straight defeats.

And with the last win coming in the second round, victory over Leeds, winning in a tense penalty shootout.

This will be a challenging task for the out-of-form side, who had dreams of pushing for promotion.

But with the Ammies coming off the back of a tough defeat 3-2 loss to Harrogate Town, it seems like a win would be the difference for their season.

Especially after the devastating blow to the side, conceding in the 80th minute sending the travelling support home with nothing once again.

With the poor run of fixtures, this would’ve been the last game the Ammies would have liked to see on the fixture list as they prepare to face the Premier League side for the first time.

A win, however, would lift the side’s spirits going into the weekend, with it being an opportunity for Neil Wood to spur on the dressing room.

But they will be facing a Burnley side also looking to capitalise on a difficult start to the campaign.

The newly promoted side currently sits 19th in the Premier League with their last win coming in the Carabao Cup.

The Clarets beat Nottingham Forest 1-0, with Zeki Amdouni scoring a 90th-minute winner to send them through in dramatic fashion.

Manager Vincent Kompany’s presumably will be looking at this game as an opportunity to rebuild confidence.

The Belgian coach will be hoping for some goals against a weak Salford defence, with Burnley only netting four times in the opening six games.

And this might be the former Manchester City captain’s game plan, Neil Wood’s side have conceded 16 in the opening nine league games.

But throughout the competition the Ammies have shown character and their ability to hold off higher-level sides.

Salford City fans will hope for the fortune they faced against Preston North End and Leeds to advance to the fourth round for the first time.

Salford City will play Burnley tonight at the Peninsula Stadium, kicking off at 19:45.
