Angry residents voiced concerns at plans for a controversial household waste treatment station in Monton during a virtual hearing on Tuesday morning.
Local residents have voiced major concerns about the proximity of the proposed site to a children’s playground, as well as worrying about the smell it will bring and the traffic the plant could cause.
Many of the attendees have also called for the hearing to be pushed back to give the public more notice to be able to attend. Monton residents are annoyed about the lack of information and notice they had received about Tuesday’s meeting – which arose after an appeal by Manchester Recycling Ltd against a decision by the Environment agency.
MP for Salford and Eccles, Rebecca Long-Bailey, told the hearing how she has “received emails saying they [the public] hadn’t been made aware”.
Senior environmental crime officer, Sharon Owen, put signs up around Monton to let the public and local businesses know about the hearing 21 days before. A notice was also put up in Winton Library, as the Environment Agency said this was the closest local community centre.

Eccles councillor, Sharmina August, commented on the post: “Salford City Council received no notice of this hearing.
“The original application did not come through the City Council. It is outrageous that people were only notified by a sign on a lamppost a few days before the hearing”.
Residents voiced a series of concerns, and it was concluded that it is unfair to proceed with Tuesday’s scheduled hearing.
A new date is yet to be announced, however furious residents who have written to express their interest or concern will be notified of the new hearing once it has been arranged.
