Salford Red Devils have sent desperately needed artificial grass to a local Salford-based dogs charity in Irlam called Dogs4Rescue to help the mud infested ‘feral garden’ area.

The rugby club has helped out after the charity’s garden was deluged as a result of recent heavy rainfall.

As a result of the bad weather, the Irlam dogs charity has seen its ‘feral garden’ area destroyed, while dogs exercising in the garden have also contributed to the muddy conditions.

The charity launched an appeal for grass to be donated as they didn’t have the money to purchase it – Red Devils stepped in to help with ‘an enormous piece of artificial grass’, while other Greater Manchester companies also helped.

Becky Billington from Dogs4Rescue charity has said: “Salford Red Devils the reached out to us after we put a plea out for the grass.

“The legends rocked up with an enormous piece of artificial grass, that has completely transformed the feral garden caravan. Other companies have also offered donations too, so hopefully the first of many improvements around here.”

The mud was becoming too deep to handle at the charity.

“The grass that they have given us is great for the dogs to run around in the rescue and not get muddy. It was used to cover the garden area for our ‘Ferals Caravan’ section”.

“We are so incredibly grateful for the support the Red Devils have given us”.

Becky added that the recent conditions have caused serious problems for their residents.

“It’s only October and we already have a mudfest situation developing at our Irlam site,” she added.

“This is because the site is located on a high water table and in winter its simply unusable without artificial grass.”

“We already tried extra drainage and tread grids, but the mud just continues to come through them when the water levels rise.”

“Its so expensive to buy but we can’t having another winter of this, especially not when our Handicans are sitting in wet mud. Its not good for the dogs when they sat in sloppy mud for long periods of time.”

“It also makes life so much harder for our hardworking staff as it creates so much extra cleaning everywhere.”

The charity specialises in finding dogs previously abandoned new and safe homes, where the dogs can be loved and cared for.

Dogs come in from all over Europe to the charity, and hope to find a new home with help from the loving and caring workers at Dogs4Rescue.
