Five fire engines rushed to the Peel Park campus on University Road in the early hours of the morning after reports of a fire in a kitchen flat.
The fire and rescue team received the call at around 0.45am and were “quickly mobilised to the scene.”
An evacuation of the block was carried out.
A spokesperson from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Five fire engines from Salford, Broughton, Agecroft and Manchester Central fire stations were quickly mobilised to the scene. An evacuation of the block was carried out and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to bring the fire under control and damp down the affected area.
“Crews carried out checks of the premises before handing over to building security. Firefighters were at the scene for around two hours.”
