Salford City winger Luke Bolton has departed the club after agreeing a deal with fellow League Two club Wrexham.

The 24-year-old arrived at Moor Lane in 2022 from the Manchester City academy, having previous Football League experience with Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers.

Bolton made just shy of 100 appearances in Ammies colours, scoring six goals, all coming last season. He has also racked up 16 assists.

The club announced the player’s departure, stating: “Luke Bolton has completed a transfer to Wrexham AFC for an undisclosed fee.

The winger leaves The Peninsula Stadium two years after signing from Manchester City. On behalf of everyone at Salford, thank you for your contributions Bolts and best wishes for your future career.”

Bolton becomes the second senior player to leave the club in the January transfer window after striker Marcus Dackers was sent to National League side Southend United on loan for the rest of the season.

Karl Robinson’s side have made one signing so far, with the permanent transfer of Jezreel Davies from Burnley earlier this week.

The January window for all EFL clubs shuts at 11 pm on February 1st, meaning the window to replace the outgoing Bolton is slowly narrowing for The Ammies.

Kelly Nmai has had a breakout season so far primarily playing on the wing, and Conor McAleny has made previous appearances from out wide, meaning there is some cover to fill Bolton’s boots.

Salford face the Red Dragons this weekend, with kick-off at the Peninsula Stadium at 3pm on Saturday, February 3.
