The ‘first look’ production images have been released for the exciting new musical 42 Balloons, which will debut at The Lowry, Salford.

42 Balloons runs from April 18 – May 19 2024. The production is inspired by the aspirations of a Los Angeles truck driver Larry Walters and his dream of flying in a lawn chair lifted by 42 weather balloons.

With an infectious soundtrack of energetic ’80s tunes and a thrilling plot, the production traces Larry’s journey, emphasising the power of love and an unwavering belief in the boundless possibilities of imagination.

42 Balloons has book, music and lyrics by director Jack Godfrey whose other works include This Is A Love Story and Babies.

The musical stars Charlie McCullagh and Evelyn Hoskins reprising their roles as Larry and Carol from the 2022 staged concert performances in the West End.

Joining them will be Gillian Hardie as Carol’s Mom and Lejaun Sheppard as Ron.

Producer Andy Barnes, of Global Musicals, described the current response the show has received from the audience.

He said: “We have been truly overwhelmed by the response to 42 Balloons from the audiences that have seen it so far.

“It’s an ambitious musical in lots of ways but our team of talented creatives and crew, with the unwavering support of The Lowry, have helped bring this brand new musical to life in a way that is set to thrill audiences for the next month.”
