motorcycle fundraiser

A charity is inviting motorcyclists to take on a sponsored journey between two air bases, ending at Barton Aerodrome this weekend.

North West Air Ambulance is encouraging supporters to ride from Blackpool Airport through north-western countryside roads, ending at Barton Aerodrome.

Motorcyclists of all skill levels are urged to join in the fundraiser event on Sunday April 27 – where participants will gather in the morning before riding towards Salford.

The base-to-base event sponsored by Fletchers Solicitors, will be used to contribute to the North West Air Ambulance, which does not receive any government or NHS funding and relies entirely on donations to keep its helicopters flying.

The raised funds will be used to help towards the North West Air Ambulance, which needs to raise £18 million this year to fund hundreds of missions to critically ill or injured patients across the area.

The motorcycle charity event will aim to raise awareness and much-needed funds to support its services across the region.

Sophie Cumby, the events coordinator for the North West Air Ambulance Charity, said: “We provide specialist and enhanced pre-hospital care to the most critically ill and injured patients across the northwest.

“We feel like we’ve got a strong link with the biker community. We do attend that group quite a lot.”

Sophie continued: “And we’re just trying to constantly build our relationship with them. So we thought of putting on events directly for riders in the area and it would be a nice thing to do.

“With us having our airbase in Barton, we thought that would be a good location to finish the event. The riders will end up at the base and build on that link between ourselves and the biker community.”

To join the ride costs £6. Full information about the event and tickets can be found here.
