England Women winning the world cup

Salford’s CorpAcq stadium will host 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup winners England in the opening game of their WXV Global Series against Australia in September.

The Red Roses were crowned world champions for a third time when they beat Canada 33-13 in front of more than 80,000 people at Twickenham five months ago.

In September, Joni Mitchell’s side will host Australia, Canada and New Zealand on home soil.

And their campaign will begin in Salford, after the city hosted four matches at the Rugby World Cup last year.

The tournament will feature 18 of the world’s best national teams, with the top 12 teams – Australia, Canada, England, France, Italy, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, South Africa, USA, and Wales competing in a home-and-away, cross-regional touring model.

These fixtures will take place within an eight-week global window from the second week of September to the last week of October.

After England’s historic win over Canada, Salford Women’s coach Marcell Lock predicted that the team’s success would give women’s rugby a boost domestically.

The success of the England Women’s team in winning the World Cup will, no doubt, have a huge impact on women’s sport across the country,” she said.

“Achievements like this don’t just showcase the incredible talent at the top level; they also inspire the next generation of players by showing them what’s possible.

“For us, it means more young girls and women are seeing rugby as a sport they can belong to, whether that’s playing rugby union or rugby league, coaching, or supporting.”

Aspiring rugby players in Salford will have the chance to see their World Cup-winning heroes up close on 12 September.
