A striking set of phoenix wings has been unveiled in Salford as part of a major regeneration project, created with the help of local schoolchildren.

The installation has appeared at Phoenix Quarter in Pendleton, the latest phase of the wider regeneration in the area, led by national housebuilder Lovell Homes.

Year 4 pupils from Lark Hill Community Primary School designed individual feathers for the artwork as part of a project titled ‘Spread your Wings’, aimed at engaging young people in the future of their community. Their designs were combined to form the large-scale phoenix wings, celebrating the area’s diversity and community spirit.

Construction of the 485-home development is now underway, and pupils joined members of the Lovell Homes team to mark the milestone by unveiling fence signage featuring their artwork.

Sharing what they enjoy about the area, one pupil said: “I like going to Buile Hill Park with my family to play. I like the people and making new friends.”

Other pupils also highlighted the strong sense of community, with one saying: “I love everything about my local area. I go to Salford Precinct every Saturday with my nana, and I love the shops there.”

Another student added: “So many other children live near me, and we meet up at Peel Park. I always go to Salford Youth Zone and do fun activities.”

Located in Pendleton, Phoenix Quarter will deliver a mix of homes designed to suit a wide range of residents, from first-time buyers to families and older people. The scheme includes one and two-bedroom apartments alongside two, three and four-bedroom houses.

Thirty percent of the homes are classed as affordable, including shared ownership and rental options, while more than 140 properties are being designed for residents aged 55 and over, supporting an intergenerational community.

Anne-Marie O’Doherty, regional sales director, said: “It was fantastic to involve local school children for our ‘Make your Mark’ project.

“We understand that Salford is a diverse and dynamic area, and we’ve designed Phoenix Quarter to reflect that and create a place where everyone can feel at home”.

“This is much more than a housing development; it’s a community where people and their families can flourish,” she continued.

Phoenix Quarter follows on from the successful Spinners Quarter and forms part of the long-running regeneration of Pendleton. As part of the wider plans, Clarendon Park will also see improvements.

More information about the development can be found on the Lovell Website.
