Local officers will patrol the Lower Broughton area following recent gatherings that have “gone too far” after last week’s fatal collision that tragically took the lives of two teenagers.
The gatherings have been in tribute to the 16-year-old and a 17-year-old who tragically lost their lives whilst riding on the same motorbike on Thursday 22 May, when it was in collision with a car.
Following the incident, Salford GMP have shared that they “are aware of recent gatherings in the Lower Broughton area of Salford” – with the families being grateful for the tributes being made to the two young boys, Kailem and Kaine.
However, Salford GMP have shared that the families of the two boys “do not condone any trouble in the area, including the disruption being caused to other members of the public.”
Officers will patrol Lower Broughton after some of the gatherings and activities in the area being known to have “gone too far.”
Local officers in the area, are working closely with Salford City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester, with public safety and minimising disruption being a priority.
Salford GMP are also keen to ensure that no one in the community is left to feel unsafe in the area they call home.
Chief Inspector Simon Ashcroft, of GMP Salford’s local policing team, said: “What happened last Thursday night was a tragic event that saw two young boys lose their life. I totally understand why feelings are high in the community and their need to grieve this loss.
“Family liaison officers are supporting Kailem and Kaine’s families at this difficult time. I ask that the community respect their wishes for no trouble in the area as this is not an appropriate way for the boys to be remembered.”
Chief Inspector Simon Ashcroft continued: “Everyone who calls Lower Broughton their home shouldn’t live in fear of leaving their home or shouldn’t be prevented from going about their daily business.
“I know there will have been frustration over the bank holiday as we sensitively engaged with those gathering in the area.”
He added: “Some of the activity in the area has gone too far and our officers will continue engaging positively with those paying their respects, but any criminality won’t be tolerated.
“Enquiries are ongoing to take action against anyone identified as responsible.”
Salford GMP have also shared they will act against anyone found to be involved in criminality. And anyone with footage or information should contact the police on 0161 856 5217.
