Salford City’s Head Coach Karl Robinson shared he was happy with his side’s overall performance in their penalty defeat to League One side Rotherham United.
Despite losing on penalties 2-3, the Ammies were able to hold their own against an opposition in the league above – even having numerous chances to take the lead.
Playing a full 90 minutes and keeping the scores level, Salford City were not clinical enough from the penalty spot – missing three of their five penalties – allowing Rotherham United to advance.
However, despite the loss after the game Karl Robinsons spoke positively on his side’s efforts – however, wished his side was more clinical.
He said: “I’m really happy, my critique is we didn’t take our chances.
“I think we had multiple opportunities to take the lead, we wasted opportunities, we didn’t shoot early enough, we were trying to score the perfect goal and that arguably ended up with defenders getting closer to make the blocks.”
The Salford City head coach also was quick to praise his players, as the club continues their recruitment drive – as they said goodbye to seventeen players at the end of last season.
He added: “We’re really low on players at the minute, you can clearly see that. We are being ultra-aggressive behind the scenes.
“You come into these games knowing that you need four or five players in the building.”
Karl Robinson also shared that he missed his forward Cole Stockton but was pleased that his side was still able to compete.
He continued: “There’s no Cole Stockton, who is a big, big loss, and to still put a performance on against a team that was in the Championship two years ago is a real credit to our players.”
And he will be hoping for another positive performance this weekend, as they once again play at home against Accrington Stanley on Saturday 18 August, kicking off at 3pm.
