Ryan Brierley confident Salford will be stronger following ownership dilemma

Salford Red Devils supporters’ group ‘The 1873’ have confirmed that former club captain Ryan Brierley will join them on the march ahead of the fixture against Catalans Dragons.

The protest is set to be the club ‘biggest, loudest, and most visual march yet’ ahead of the Super League match against Catalans Dragons.

The march will follow the previous protests hosted before both the cancelled fixture against Wakefield Trinity and the most recent away journey to Warrington Wolves.

The Red Devils supporters’ group have been making themselves heard, as they marched towards the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Travelling supporters were also rewarded for their efforts, with the Red Devils pulling off a shock win against The Wire on Friday night (29 August).

At the end of the game the players and staff could be seen brandishing the 1873 banners, whilst joining the supports in their post-match celebrations.

And now for the march against the Catalans they will be joined by ‘one of their own’.

The former captain and boyhood Salford fan Ryan Brierley left the club in August joining Championship side Oldham for an undisclosed fee.

Following his departure to the Roughyeds, leaving with prop Jack Ormondroyd, Brierly shared his emotional goodbyes to the club.

He said: “I’ve lived my childhood dream by representing Salford Red Devils. It’s all I ever wanted: to wear the badge, play for this city, and give everything I had for this club.

“Furthermore, to have been given the honour of captaining Salford is something I’ll hold onto for the rest of my life. No one can ever take that away from me.”

He added: “You’ve given me everything I ever dreamed of.

“This is goodbye for now. I leave with a heavy heart, full of love and gratitude, but I’ll always carry Salford with me. I’ll be praying this club gets back to where it belongs.

“Thank you for letting me live the dream. Forever, Salford.”

And it seems that he will be once again joining the supporters and showing his love for the club, saying “say thank you to the supporters who’ve stood by and backed him.”

The former captain will join the march ahead of the fixture against the Catalans Dragons – with supporters encouraged to meet at Salford Roosters from 5.30pm, with the march to the stadium beginning at 7pm.

Ahead of the protest fans have been encouraged to join together and continue the same message: “Two marches. Thousands of voices. A fan base united. But the fight isn’t finished.”
