A Salford good Samaritan has launched a support group for women facing a whole range of issues in a bid to give them a wider support network.
Women for Wisdom, which opens this weekend, will be hosting group sessions in Walkden in the hope of bringing local women together.
Janet Fairhurst, a Walkden resident, started building up Women for Wisdom after previously working on Heads Up Ladies.

Janet said: “Yesterday (September 28), the ladies came up, we just had a meeting and a cup of tea, and I asked them what they wanted to do with the group and then we went for a walk at Black Leach.”
The group, which was formed through Janet’s passion to “make people happy” is always open to ideas and they will allow women to speak freely and decide what they want from a meeting.
Following on from this, ladies do not have to have a feeling of pressure when attending as it’s their choice.
The group is in place twice a week, once on a Tuesday and then again on a Sunday, making it more accessible to a variety of ladies.
The first session of the week takes place between 7pm and 9pm at Walkden library on Tuesday, with the second session being held between 1pm and 3pm at Black Leach allotment, just to the side of the country park.
Janet said: “The group is aimed at anyone who has gone through anything: domestic violence, bad mental health and even ladies who are suffering with cancer. We all support each other.”
The sessions consist of many different things and participants can expect a variety of activities, ranging from meditation to strolls around the local country park which is really good for mental health.
Women for Wisdom aspire to make all women feel welcome.
Janet added: “It’s fantastic, we’re hoping to do much more, I’m trying to get tickets for the theatre and things like that so I can get the girls involved and we can have nights out as well as the weekly meetings.
“We’ve got a WhatsApp group where everyone can stay in touch, people who are very, very lonely but they’re building friendships. Two girls are now the best of friends after meeting through Women for Wisdom.”
