The match marks the first competitive clash between the two sides, with the Ammies looking to match last season’s memorable cup campaign, which saw them reach the third round for the first time, before being knocked out by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Salford come into the tie having won back-to-back games in League Two, leaving them in third place. Their opponents are also flying high, sitting fifth in League One, despite not scoring in their past two fixtures.
Despite being a division lower, Salford will come into the tie feeling optimistic, having beaten Lincoln’s fellow League One high-fliers Stockport County 3-1 in the Vertu Trophy a month ago.
In addition, the Ammies knocked out League One Shrewsbury Town on their historic run to the third round last season.
An all-League-Two clash against Cheltenham Town followed, with Salford running out 2-0 winners to set up a massive tie against Premier League juggernauts Manchester City in round three.
City ultimately proved too good for the Ammies, with Salford-born midfielder James McAtee scoring a hat-trick in an 8-0 drubbing.
Their opponents Lincoln are no strangers to a historic cup run, reaching the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in the 2016/17 season, losing to eventual winners Arsenal.
The FA Cup is huge for lower ranked sides in the English football pyramid, with the prize money for progressing past the first round sat at £45,000. In addition, televised ties against Premier League sides provide huge revenue that is not as readily available for League One and Two sides.
10 years ago, Salford made their first appearance in the first round proper, famously beating Notts County, who were ranked 59 places higher in English football at the time.
The Ammies ran out 2-0 winners thanks to goals from Danny Webber and Richie Allen.
The game will kick off at 3pm and if Salford are to progress, the second round will be played on the first weekend of December.
Refreshed, trained well, and in good spirits 😄
