A pub in Eccles is offering free tea and coffee so that locals have a place to shelter from the cold this winter.

The Bird In Hand, on Liverpool Road, Patricroft, is doing its bit to help households facing rising fuel and food bills as the temperature drops this November.

It has launched its annual Warmth Without Worry invitation to residents to pop in for a hot drink and chat.

Kirsten Lewis from the Bird In Hand said: “This time of year, people dwindle off cause obviously it’s cold and stuff like that.

“A lot of the concern is that they are just staying at home, not going out, not mixing, losing communication.”

Pub regular Keith said: “It’s just so good, it’s so friendly. It’s absolutely one of the best community-based pubs.

“I only started drinking here regularly at the beginning of the year, but it feels like I have been coming for years and immediately, all the lads and ladies accepted me.

“You get a range of characters in here, from the quieter ones to the louder ones. It is absolutely excellent, that’s why I love it.”

This Eccles-based pub is providing locals with a cosy place to stop off if their homes are too cold.

Keith said, “I don’t put the heating on at home, sometimes it does get really cold.

“You come in here and it’s a lovely warm and relaxed atmosphere so immediately you come in, your shoulders drop, you relax.”

Titch, a frequent visitor, said: “I’ve been a self-employed plumber all my life. I don’t really need anything now, but my youngest daughter bought me a 15 tog quilt to keep me warm at night. I’ve got two quilts already!”

The Bird In Hand also offers free pool on Thursdays, a weekly pub quiz every Friday, karaoke on a Saturday, kids events, crafts and live music at the weekends, making it a nice place to spend time out of the house.

Bird in Hand will also be offering a ‘12 Days of Christmas’ event offering mince pies and mulled wine on Mondays.

The Bird in Hand is open seven days a week, from 11am to 11pm, located at 304 Liverpool Rd, Patricroft, Eccles, Manchester M30 0RY.

The Joseph Holt pub is also part of the chain’s Children’s Charity Appeal to raise £250,000. To find out more.
