The BBC announced the seven categories for this year’s awards:

Personality of the year, Young Sports Personality of the year, Coach of the year, Team of the Year, World Sport Star of the year, Lifetime Achievement, Helen Rollason award for ‘outstanding achievement in the face of adversity.’

With a wide range of categories, the ceremony will pay tribute to all aspects of sport in celebration of the many achievements different sporting personalities have accomplished in the past 12 months.

Contenders of the categories are yet to be announced, but audience voting is set to open in early December.

Last year’s winner of Sports Personality of the Year was Keely Hodgkinson, who claimed gold at the Paris Olympics in the 800m race.

Hodgkinson was the fourth consecutive female winner and it remains to be seen whether a female sports personality will add to the tally this time around.

Audiences can have their say on who will win World Sport Star of the Year, Sports Personality and for the first time, Team of the Year.

Details on how to vote can be found here SPOTY.

The ceremony has many aspects to make it an enjoyable event for audiences.

While the evening has a broad focus on sporting achievements, entertainment is also set to be provided for the audience, while still maintaining the theme of sport.

This year, Bradford City fans will be performing in their choir, Bantam of the Opera, performing their adaptation of Bradford’s club anthem Midland Road.
