A Salford-based singer is celebrating the release of his latest single.
Artist Jake Morin’s latest single, Push, released last month, is proving to be a significant success, garnering positive attention on the radio and live.
The song, which Morin wrote during his second year of college, has a deeply personal origin, serving as an ode to a college teacher and a reminder to himself to persevere in his musical journey.
Morin initially composed Push on an “old classical guitar” at his partner’s place.
The original version featured a complex arrangement of classical guitars, reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac, with intertwining acoustic sounds.
However, when he brought the song to his band, they decided to “strip it right back.”
The recording process was remarkably efficient, with Morin and drummer Gabe Raven tracking it live, followed by the addition of bass, keys, and re-tracked vocals, all completed in a single day.

When talking about the meaning of the song, he stated: “It’s kind of just an ode to one of my teachers in college.
“He reminded me to be like you’ve got to just stick to it, this whole music thing.”
He added that his tutor said: “If I find out in a year or two that you’ve dropped music, I’ll come and find you and park him on break your leg.”
A core memory, which is highlighted in the second verse of the song.
As a Salford-based artist, who has played at a host of local venues, including the Old Pint Pot pub, Morin’s community-focused approach to releasing “Push” involved organising a gig with college friends and prioritising connection over numbers.
Jake Morin’s musical influences include Hayley Blais, particularly her Wisecrack album, also mentioning Willie Mason’s Already Dead album for its weird textures.
A significant memory of this song came from a live performance where he pulled his partner and long-time friend on stage to perform it together.
For Morin, playing Push live is something special, a song that clicked with the band from the start and remains his favourite to perform.
Its meaning, a steadfast dedication to music, continues to hold true for him.
As Push continues to connect with listeners, fans can anticipate more from Jake Morin, so stay tuned for what’s next.
