Salford Creative Network getting people involved in the Arts

A Salford charity is running a campaign to discover how people across the city like to get creative.

The Salford Creative Health Network is inviting people to send a picture of a piece of art and a sentence about how it makes them feel.

The campaign is open to all Salford residents and submissions can be made by groups or individuals.

They have made the campaign open to all residents from Salford and are asking for contributions from groups or individuals.

Caroline Alexander, the Strategic Lead for Arts and Creative Health for Salford Community Leisure, said: “We are a collection of organisations in Salford that are trying to bring arts and health closer together.”

“Creative health is a relatively new term that refers to the fact that a lot of people wanting to be healthy think of physical activity like going to the gym, but also creative activity is just as important.”

According to statistics by the Social Behavioural Group, adults who engaged in creative activities every few months recorded a 32% decrease in the likelihood of depression, and adults who engaged in activities more than monthly recorded 48% decrease.

“We want to know what the people of Salford do to get creative,” Alexander said.

She went on saying, “You could be a family, a child, a school class, you might be a professional artist or doodle at home, or knit at home as a hobby.”

All entries will be put into a draw, that will win a £50 voucher. This draw will be held on the 21st of April.

On top of this, the Network is encouraging residents to come to an event held on the 25th of March, which will be focused on the social and emotional barriers to creativity & culture.

On the long term ambitions of the Salford Creative Network, Caroline added, “GM (Greater Manchester) ambition is to be the first creative health city in the world.

“What we’re trying to do in Salford is to make it really specific and local to Salford to really understand what everyone does and the language that they use, and what people share with us is feeding into that,” she said.

You can send your photo and sentence to this email: SalfordCreativeHealth@scll.co.uk and you can get free tickets to the event in April here.
