Salford City have pushed themselves into the play-off places with a 1-1 draw against Fleetwood Town in Tuesday’s League Two fixture.

Kelly N’mai got the first goal of the match in the 26th minute, following a Fleetwood free kick. The forward dribbled down the Fleetwood half and into the box for a stunning finish in front of the 175 travelling Salford fans.

However, in the 82nd minute Fleetwood’s Matty Virtue scored an equaliser after a quick free-kick to deny Salford three points. Ched Evans sent the ball to James Norwood in the box and Virtue saw the strike home.

The first half was somewhat even with plenty of end-to-end action. However, The Ammies came out on top with Nmai’s strike.

Fleetwood’s Harrison Neal was shown a yellow card for a dangerous challenge on Josh Austerfield in the 21st minute.

The Cod Army were forced to make a substitute in the 37th minute as Harrison Holgate received on pitch treatment. He was replaced by Finley Potter.

N’mai was also shown a yellow card in the 44th minute for diving in the box. Salford immediately responded with a strong counterattack and multiple shots from inside the box. However, this amounted to nothing as the ball was launched away by Jay Lynch.

Fleetwood’s Kaydn Hughes was then booked in the 67th minute for a foul on Kallum Cesay.

City made their two substitutions in the 84th minute with Fabio Borini replacing Daniel Udoh, and Matt Butcher replacing Josh Austerfield.

The result leaves Salford in 7th place, just four points off the automatic spots in what looks to be a tight promotion race.

The Ammies will host mid-table Colchester United on Saturday at the Peninsula Stadium, with the game kicking off at 3pm.
