A family-friendly, dance-theatre adaptation of the classic fairytale Snow White starring Salford primary school students will take centre stage at The Lowry Theatre in 2026.

An enchanting and centuries-old fairy tale, Snow White will be retold for modern audiences in the distinctive voice of former poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy in Salford on Valentine’s Day (14 February).

The show will see a return to the city for the Northern Dance Company after five years away, as an all-ages cast of 20 steps into the spotlight.

Among the stars set to debut at The Lowry Theatre will be 10 students from Salford’s Summerville Primary School in Claremont, aged between six and eight.

Audiences aged five and above can enjoy this heartfelt story of youth and ageing, betrayal, jealousy and friendship, meaning the classmates of Salford’s student stars can see their friends in action.

This BalletLorent production uses narration to help audiences of all ages engage with the power of dance.

However, it still retains all the well-loved elements of the original Brothers Grimm yarn, from a magic mirror to a poisoned apple, a jealous mother and a smitten prince.

Artistic director Liv Lorent is in charge of the choreography, while Lady Gaga and Madonna designer Nasir Mazhar and Libby El-Alfy (Game of Thrones) create the costumes. The music has been produced by Dr Who composer Murray Gold.

Ahead of the appearance at The Lowry Theatre, Lorent highlighted that she was looking forward to performing in Salford.

She said: “Snow White offers a rich and visually stunning experience for all ages, blending powerful storytelling with beautiful choreography and original music.

“We look forward to welcoming audiences to Salford, whether you’re seeing us for the first time or coming back for more.”
