A Salford homelessness charity has urged people to get involved in a fundraiser to help secure its future in the city.
Emmaus Salford are asking people to help them raise funds for their ‘Mile In Their Shoes’ campaign by walking or running 28 miles in 28 days this February.
The Pendleton-based charity, which provides housing, support and training opportunities to those who have experienced homelessness, faces an uncertain future after being told its building lease will not be renewed.
With Emmaus’ building’s lease set to expire in February 2028, they have called on Salfordians to take part in a sponsored walk or run to help them secure vital funding.
They have issued a plea for individuals, businesses, colleges and other organisations to come forward and put themselves in the shoes of people in need to help safeguard the building’s future.
Over the past 11 years, Emmaus Salford has been a lifeline for people forced into homelessness, providing a home, support, and work opportunities that have transformed the lives of more than 775 individuals.
They hope Salfordians will get involved in the fundraising push, which will allow them to relocate or carry out vital refurbishment work to protect the future of the service.
One of the people taking part is Malcolm, who is studying in college to go into a career in psychology while helping in the charity shop at Emmaus Salford.

Malcolm said: “When I was homeless, I had very little food, very little money and I had to walk miles just to get to an appointment. You’re cold, you’re wet, you’re miserable – and then you’ve got to get up and do it all again.
“I’m walking for good this February to show solidarity with people who are homeless. I want to raise money and raise awareness so others don’t have to go through what I did.”
You can also join Malcolm and the Emmaus Salford charity on a Walk For Good – a mile fundraiser, starting from the charity’s base on Fitzwarren Street in Salford, beginning at 9:30am on 17 February.
By taking part in A Mile In Their Shoes as well as a Walk For Good fundraisers will be helping ensure Emmaus Salford has a home for good, and secures its home, support and opportunities for people experiencing homelessness.
