Peel Retail and Leisure who own and manage Quayside have kickstarted plans to renovate the 75,000 sq ft of largely empty space within the shopping centre.

The plans include details of indoor e-karting in the upper mall and bowling to provide more entertainment for families in Salford.

The upper food court of the shopping centre is planned to be removed with food and drink establishments to stay concentrated on the ground level where popular food court Kargo MKT is already housed.

The renovation is being carried out by Peel Retail and Leisure who also manage The Trafford Palazzo within Trafford Centre with ideas to bring similar places such as King Pins and Archies Atomic.

The Quayside 2030 renovation project has presented opportunity to create 3,200 new homes as well as more job opportunity and retail and leisure facilities within the shopping centre.

Adam Orton who has worked  at Media City UK for multiple years said: “It’s changed a lot, it’s a bit sparse and needs more shops really especially the upstairs.”

Salford shoppers generally agreed they were excited for the revamp of the shopping centre because the current state is extremely desolate with lots of empty spaces.

Salford Council state: “Salford Quays 2030 will be a place where art and innovation bring people together.

“In our vision, culture runs through our streets. We work with attractions and homegrown culture, media and entertainment partners to create a public art programme rooted in the technology, media and art that our Media City neighbourhood is so well known for.”
