Salford City are looking to extend their unbeaten run to 11 games as they host Chesterfield in League Two.

The Ammies haven’t lost a game in all competitions since a 7-2 loss to Rotherham in the Vertu Trophy at the start of December, propelling themselves into second in League Two and into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Salford ran out 1-0 winners in their last game, beating struggling Bristol Rovers thanks to another goal from new signing Ryan Graydon, who has three goals and one assist in his three appearances since signing from Fleetwood Town.

Chesterfield have had a very inconsistent season and haven’t won since a Boxing Day victory over Notts County, leaving the Spireites in ninth, four points off the playoff positions.

Salford haven’t beaten Chesterfield since 2018, losing four and drawing once in their five meetings since, including a 2-0 defeat at the SMH Group Stadium earlier this season.

Defender Ollie Turton turned the ball into his own net before Ronan Darcy sealed the victory for Chesterfield late on, a result which at the time left Salford in ninth place themselves.

Fortune has changed since for the Ammies, and a win on Tuesday night could bring them within three points of league leaders Bromley, who are on a nine-game unbeaten run themselves, only dropping points on one occasion, a 0-0 draw against Chesterfield.

Chesterfield’s main threat is expected to come from top scorer Lee Bonis, although veteran striker Will Grigg started in the defeat to Newport County. Grigg, now 34, turned down a move to Salford in 2020 whilst still at Sunderland.

The game is set to kick off under the lights at the Peninsula Stadium at 7:45pm with Salford looking to close in at the top of the table.
