People in Little Hulton and Walkden have come together to suggest and lead 100 activities over 100 days to celebrate Salford’s centenary as a city.
The organisers set up ideas boxes in 19 locations around the area where the community could have their say on what they wanted to happen in the 100 days of activity.
The organiser at Little Hulton Live Well, Stewart Knights, said: “All of the activities are suggested by residents from Little Hulton and Walkden, so the activities are broad in the best kind of way. It’s everything from celebrations for Eid, Easter, May Day and indoor skydiving.
“We brought them to the precincts, at the different health centres, care homes, shops, youth clubs, and different community spaces, and that is how we got all the ideas. 450 suggestions, which then boiled down to about 300 unique ideas.
“Everything you can imagine is probably in this programme.”
Little Hulton Live Well conducted a research project in 2024, and the consensus found that the community knew there was stuff going on, but didn’t know of any events happening.
Stewart said: “Local people have come together to put together this programme, then we’re looking at ways to sort of share that information so that everybody can be made aware of what’s happening.
“We organise it in such a way that people can stay involved in that process, and it’s open door policy at every opportunity. For people to find out more and get involved in a way that fits them.”
One of the biggest projects suggested by the community is a parade. Stewart explained: “We’re trying to schedule to go down the bankings, or the loopline people know it as, which will be sometime between the 26th to the 29th of May.”
The parade journey is set to go through the Little Hulton train station to the Walkden station loopline.
The 100 days will provide exciting activities, festivities, training, skills and employment opportunities for all from Mother’s Day March 15 until June 23.
