Karl Robinson addressed fans directly following Salford’s 1-0 win over MK Dons, saying: “We just need more people in here, don’t we really?”

The Ammies were able to make home advantage count against automatic promotion rivals MK Dons thanks to a stunning goal from midfielder Matt Butcher. This win leaves Salford City only three points clear of Notts County in third, County being the Ammies’ next game.

Over 3000 fans (including away fans) ventured into the Peninsula Stadium for the match. Robinson spoke about how he felt Salford City needed more: “We just need more people in here don’t we really?

“That’s the bit that’s really hard, we’re asking questions how can we fill this place out and make this place a fortress. We’re a growing team and we’re right in the heart of Salford

“No connections to anyone, people may say, because of our owner – but we are a Salford Football club.”

This win for Salford follows a disappointing performance away against Cambridge United, which saw them lose against another rival for promotion.

Butcher Goal Celebrations (Salford City X)

Salford City now find themselves just weeks away from potentially being one of the three teams promoted into League One, Robinson shared his thoughts on how important the next game against Notts County is “I see it as three points for us or three points for them.

“I know the league will tell you different. ‘You lose that and your six points behind.’ Who’s to say we don’t win the next two and they don’t lose the next two? I don’t believe that just because you lose a game in this moment that it derails everything.”

Salford were also able to break their point tally with six games remaining, “What a wonderful Milestone, to get the most amount of wins in a season, and to break last years point tally with everything we had going against us last season

“For me personally, to have been here three years now and getting more and more points every season, that is a testament to the players, staff, and everybody.”

The win against strong opposition will no doubt give Salford City confidence as they go into the final games of the season. Now with the Ammies breaking last years points tally, the pressure is on them to go one better and secure at the very least a play-off spot, if not more, in the final stages of the season.
