A Salford woman has launched a new community service, helping women rebuild their homes and independence.
Lizzy Pope has launched the service for those who are coming through women’s centres and domestic abuse services.
Lizzy Does It focuses on rebuilding women’s homes and independence helping with moving furniture, DIY and getting properly set up for women in Salford who may need guidance or encouragement while living alone.

Ms Pope, using her own experiences and existing knowledge of DIY skills, understood how much women need practical and reliable support at such a challenging stage of life and offered to lend her hand in what she hopes to develop into a wider community project, where women can build confidence through work.
“I just thought I could really benefit these people here,” she said.
“Not only have I got a van but I can also show people how to do these things and get these things done for them, just to get their homes nice again and let them settle.”
Whether it’s picking up a sofa or a fridge freezer from a charity shop, or garden work, Lizzy and her van are willing to help wherever it is required.

“It’s all very new, I’ve got a van at the moment but it’s not big enough. It’s just been a personal sort of mission but a lot of people have been getting behind getting this rolling.”
Ms Pope, through Elevate Salford, was able to secure a £1,000 grant to help get her service off the ground and has greater ambitions to grow Lizzy Does It across Salford.
“My idea is to have a jobs board in every woman’s centre that we can, teaching women how to do skills but also sorting things for them.
“I’d like to have a couple of vans, and women that have come through the centre and trained up.”

When asked what success means, Ms Pope said: “Just having this out there and having women know that this service is there for them.
“A community of women supporting each other in any way they can really to get back on their feet and regain that independence.
“Just to make anyone’s life easier just for that day you know”
