Salford City play host to high-flying Notts County this Good Friday afternoon with an air of optimism following a huge home win over second-place MK Dons last Saturday.

Salford City capped off a month of revival in their last game of March, going from five losses in six under February’s watch, to taking 15 of a possible 21 points across this period before trumping title hopefuls MK Dons at the Peninsula Stadium last weekend.

A sensational strike by man of the match Matt Butcher from the edge of the box saw Salford snatch a valuable three points from a surging Dons side, all before the visitor’s own Luke Offord saw red five minutes from time, his cynical kick out on substitute Fabio Borini sparking ugly scenes among the players.

With a highly coveted set of three points secured, Salford look to slay a top-three side at the Peninsula for the second time in the space of a week this Friday afternoon.

A Good Friday 3pm kick off could provide scope for the Reds to take a significant step towards automatic promotion contention, with The Magpies sitting three points ahead of Salford with a greater goal difference.

The visitors come into this affair with mixed results across the past two months of League action, with their promotion and League Two title push still very much in the balance.

The Ammies are a part of the chasing pack as they look to overpower County in Friday’s enormous encounter, and a second consecutive set of maximum points against a side occupying the automatic promotion positions will be right at the top of head coach Karl Robinson’s Easter to-do list.

August saw Salford City take a share of the points in their visit to Meadow Lane for the reverse fixture on the season’s second weekend, a season which has seen revolving fortunes for both sides throughout the campaign.

These fortunes are less turbulent from a Salford perspective in this fixture in particular, historically, with Salford winning four of the five total meetings between the clubs, only falling to defeat after David McGoldrick and Danny Crowley buried the hatchet for Salford at the Peninsula, a game which saw a red card a piece for the sides.

Salford City will take on Notts County at the Peninsula Stadium on Friday, 3pm kick-off.
