A new community darts hub is set to open in Swinton, offering a dedicated space for young people and residents to enjoy the sport, social events and community activities.
The new Greater Manchester Darts Community Hub, based in Swinton Square, will officially launch on 9 May with a family-friendly opening event including live music, face painting, an inflatable dart board, discounted coffee and activities throughout the day.
The project has been led by local founder Arran Mattinson, who has worked to create a dedicated community space where young people can learn darts, improve their skills and take part in positive local activities.
As part of the launch, the new Greater Manchester Darts Academy will also begin, offering Monday evening coaching sessions for children and young people with accredited coaches.
The academy aims to help young players develop their game locally and create more opportunities for regular participation in grassroots darts across Salford.
Councillor Jack Youd, Councillor for Walkden North and Deputy City Mayor of Salford, said: “I’m really proud to have supported Arran with this project and help turn his vision into reality.
“This is exactly the kind of community-led project we need more of. It creates opportunities for young people, brings positive activity into the town centre, and gives local families something new to be proud of.
“I was pleased to help connect Arran with Salford CVS and support him in accessing funding opportunities to help get this project off the ground.
“What he has created here is fantastic and shows what can happen when local people with good ideas get the right support behind them.”
The new hub will also be available for community bookings, events and children’s birthday parties, helping create a flexible local venue for residents to use throughout the year.
Support from local businesses has also helped bring the project to life, including a donation of decorating supplies from Wickes through its Community Programme.
The launch event will take place from 10am on Friday 9 May at Swinton Square, with live music from Maddison Peacock and activities planned for all ages.
Councillor Youd added: “This is about more than darts. It is about building community, creating safe spaces for young people and supporting local ambition.
“I’m excited to see the hub open and I know it will become a real asset for Swinton.”
