Will Aimson-Salford City new signing

Salford City have signed Wigan defender Will Aimson for a two-year deal.

Aimson is familiar to fans in League One, previously playing for Bolton Wanderers and Exeter City. He has a record of promotion, first with Blackpool in the League Two playoff final back in 2017, then again with Bury and Plymouth Argyle.

He has already spoken on his ambition for a fourth career promotion, stating after signing for the club that “Promotion is something that I want to achieve this season. There is a clear plan at this football club and an ambition that fits me.”

The centre-back, who played 50 times for the Latics last season, continued:

“I want to win football games, and I want to be successful. Having promotions out of this league already, I want another one and that was the sole reason to come to this football club, to be successful.”

He went on to speak about what promotion will take, saying, “It is not easy getting promoted; it takes every single person in the dressing room.

“It takes the staff, it takes everyone to be on the same page, having the same aspirations and wanting the same thing. It is day-in, day-out hard work and it doesn’t just happen on a Saturday, it is all through the week.

“The squad is brilliant, and we are adding to it so it is going to be an amazing squad going into this season.”

Aimson, at 32, still played regularly for Wigan last season, in a year that saw The Latics finish midtable in League One.
