Police have arrested two people on suspicion of a “religiously aggravated” attack after three Jewish people were hurt in a BB gun shooting in Salford.
The victims, who were all adults from the city’s Jewish community, suffered minor injuries after being shot on Leicester Road in Broughton at around 10 pm on Monday, 20 July.
It is thought that the shots were fired from a passing vehicle, Greater Manchester Police said.
Two people have been arrested on suspicion of religiously aggravated common assault and remain in custody for questioning.
The arrests came after “extensive” CCTV enquiries.
Charity Campaign Against Antisemitism said that Salford’s Shomrim, a volunteer Jewish neighbourhood watch group helping Greater Manchester Police across Kersal and Broughton, had assisted the police investigation.
In a statement, the charity said: Shomrim Greater Manchester, the local Jewish community neighbourhood watch patrol, accessed CCTV footage along the route and identified the vehicle registration number, assisting Greater Manchester Police, which has now arrested two suspects.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said that security will continue to be stepped up across Jewish communities in the region and urged people with information about the incident to come forward.
