A car driven at speeds of up to 100mph was chased by police for 45 minutes through Salford.
The high-speed pursuit saw a black Nissan Qashqai travel the wrong way up a carriageway and race through the car park of a Tesco Extra as police were led through residential parts of Pendleton, Langworthy and Irlams o’ th’ Height.
A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and failing to stop.
The incident unfolded at 10.30am on Tuesday when officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit observed the car being driven “dangerously and erratically” at high speeds and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The driver failed to stop as the car travelled down narrow residential streets in Weaste, and a 45-minute chase across the city ensued.
Helicopters from the National Police Air Service were deployed to aid the pursuit, and a total of 10 police vehicles were involved.
During the incident, the vehicle travelled along the East Lancashire Road, drove against the flow of traffic around several roundabouts and raced through the underground car park of a Tesco Extra in Pendleton.
The car was brought to a stop when officers successfully deployed the stinger, though GMP said that one officer suffered a hand injury when the stinger was dragged during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment.
A member of the public was also taken to hospital for minor injuries after the speeding vehicle collided with her car.
