MP Michael Wheeler outside Ellenbrook Primary School

A primary school in Worsley has been recognised for positive change by a local MP in a recent visit to kick off the academic year.

Worsley and Eccles MP, Michael Wheeler, has recently visited Ellenbrook Primary School to meet its pupils and staff, as the new academic year gets underway.

During his visit, the councillor toured the school and sat in the hotseat as the pupils quizzed him about his favourite musicians to the current economy.

The Government has newly introduced new measures to reduce the cost of a typical school day. From limits on the number of compulsory branded school uniform items, to expanded support through school meals and breakfast clubs.

The visit to Ellenbrook comes as families across Worsley and Eccles begin a new school year.

Salford MP, Michael Wheeler saw positive change in action to the Primary School.

“It was a real joy to visit Ellenbrook Primary School this week and meet with pupils and staff at the start of the new school year”, he said.

“I had the chance to hear about the work taking place at the school, tour the school and answer questions from every class. It was brilliant to see their enthusiasm and hear directly from them about school life.

The pupils quizzed him about his favourite musicians to the current economy.

“Our schools are at the heart of our local communities, and the dedication of teachers, support staff and everyone who helps give children the best possible start in life deserves to be recognised”, he added.

The MP will continue to visit schools and community organisations across Worsley and Eccles, following his work to make the area an even better place to live.

He believes that it is very important to him that young people have the opportunities and support they need to grow, thrive and build their futures in the community.

He said: “With families facing the pressures of everyday costs, it is important that we continue to make the school day more affordable and accessible. Measures such as reducing the cost of school uniforms and expanding support for families through free breakfast clubs and wider eligibility for free school meals are practical steps that can make a real difference.”

Wheeler thanked everybody at Ellenbrook Primary School for a warm welcome. He expressed his excitement to support other primary and secondary schools across Worsley and Eccles throughout this academic year.

If any local organisations or schools wish to invite Michael to visit, he would be very happy to hear from them at michael.wheeler.mp@parliament.uk.
