A £40 million construction plan has been given the go-ahead to build 144 new affordable homes in Ordsall.
The development set to take place on Robert Hall Street will provide a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership homes. The project aims to help residents access high-quality and energy-efficient housing.
On Monday 14 September, the plans were approved in principle to the construction contract (valued at £40 million), to Seddon Construction.
The funding package for the project has been approved by the Property and Regeneration board. However, this is subject to confirmation of grant funding, from Homes England and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).
As a whole the entire scheme will cost £46.25 million, as well as an addition £6.25 million provided by government and regional grant funding.
Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett said: “When I was elected, I said I would make it a priority to build more affordable homes and this decision today continues that pledge. Local people are desperate for affordable homes and everybody deserves a safe and warm place to live.”

The development will include one and two-bedroom apartments, alongside two, three and four-bedroom family homes.
Seddon Construction will offer social value benefits such as apprenticeship opportunities, support for schools and a £30,000 community fund to be distributed through the Ordsall Forum.
Additionally, the construction company has pledged 160 hours of volunteering support for local projects.
Mayor Dennett said: “These homes will be part of a sustainable, energy-efficient development that will not only help tackle the shortage of affordable housing in Salford but will also support our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and helping residents with the cost of living.
“This is a major investment in Ordsall and demonstrates our commitment to local people. We look forward to work starting on site and seeing these much-needed homes become a reality.”
Construction is due to start later this year, subject to the completion of funding agreements and final contract approvals.
