Award-winning Salford based Arts company Art with Heart, has announced an Autumn tour of Salford venues with its Salford Voices Banner Exhibition and Craft Pop-up.
The Salford Voices Banner has been created by artists; Chris Alton, Emily Simpson and local residents.
The exhibition opened at Salford Museum and Art Gallery earlier this year and will now head out on a seven-venue tour of the city.
It will cover venues such as; Broughton Hub, Walkden Shopping Centre and Langworthy Cornerstone and many more recognisable Salford locations.
The locally designed banners reflect Salford’s thriving community spirit, and even features an audio description from access consultant Ada Eravama- enhancing the experience of blind and partially sighted visitors.
Offering inclusivity, two small tactile banners also offer blind and partially sighted visitors the opportunity explore elements of the exhibition through touch.
The creative teams behind the banners have created visual references to Salford’s historical landmarks, natural habitats and green space, waterways, industrial heritage, the city’s evolving technology and media businesses and more.
Rachel Moorhouse, Co-Creative Director of Art with Heart is excited about breaking the traditional norm to show art in gallery spaces.
She said: “We’re delighted to be taking our exhibition on the road and bringing it to every corner of Salford.
“What’s really exciting is that we’re not putting art in traditional gallery spaces, instead we’re taking it to the places where people live, work, learn and spend their everyday lives.
Alongside the banner exhibition Art with Heart is offering free craft pop-ups with a range of Salford-themed activities, ran by local artist facilitators.
Rachel continued: “From leisure centres and libraries to shopping centres and community cafés, we want art to be part of everyday life, accessible to everyone. We believe art belongs everywhere.”
Visitors will also be able to sign a Centenary Celebration Book, created by a family firm founded in Salford- bookbinders Walker Print.
It will be the perfect opportunity for residents to reflect on what kind of place they would like Salford to be in 100 years’ time.
The book has been signed by some recognisable Salford people including Salford City Mayor, Paul Dennett, Coronation Street favourite, Cath Tyldsley, members of the Salford Red Devils supporters club, casting director Sarah Leung and members of Salford’s Local History Society.
The project has been funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority the Arnold Clark Community Fund and the UK Government, with support from Salford CVS and Salford City.
