LAWSON release their second album ‘Perspective‘ on Friday (July 8) and Quays News entertainment reporter Molly Smith has already had a listen…

With the four-piece having released their debut album, ‘Chapman Square’, back in 2012 it was fair to say that this second album has been greatly anticipated by fans.

Back in October, fans were given a taste of the band’s news material with their EP ‘Lawson’, however when speaking to Quays News in February they expressed that ‘Roads’, the lead single from ‘Lawson’, darker and edgier sound had been them stepping away from their typical sound.

‘Perspective’ takes fans back to the sound that the British band self proclaim as ‘Lawson’, big choruses play a big role in tracks such as ‘Lions Den’ and ‘I Look Anyway’ which, although shows resemblance to tracks from ‘Chapman Square’, shows a growth in the band and also the music they are now creating.

Music fans do not want to buy the same album twice and Lawson have made sure that, although reminding fans of the sound that made them fall in love with the band, you can tell they have taken time to create even bigger tracks in the four year period between ‘Perspective’ and ‘Chapman Square’.

The pop-rock quartet have emphasised the rock side to their sound with ‘Used To Be Us’ and ‘Lions Den’ but it’s fair to say that the slower love songs such as ‘Love and War’ and ‘Only Water’ stand out on the album.

One of the singles, ‘Where My Love Goes’ is arguably the biggest love song from the album. The video shows the band’s very own Andy Brown proposing to his girlfriend Joey Mcdowell.

This showed what the difference between the band’s two albums was going to be, with Chapman Square being an album predominately about lead singer Brown’s break up, ‘Perspective’ focuses much more on the positive side of love and being in love.

Lawson have shown the work that has been put into this album with every song playing a key role in the track list; often albums will feature filler tracks however this album does not feature any which makes it a great listen from begin to end.

Overall, the album shows great progression by the band and tracks such as ‘Rio’, ‘I Look Anyway’ and ‘When I’m Old’ are just three tracks that highlight what the album’s story arc is.

Fans should be excited for what is to come…
