Tyson Fury free to resume boxing career

TYSON FURY is free to resume his boxing career after accepting a backdated two-year doping ban.

Fury was charged with doping last year following a failed drugs test in February 2015, in which he tested positive for the banned steroid Nandrolene.

He had previously blamed the test result on eating an un-castrated wild boar, a claim also made by cousin Hughie, who was also charged.

Hughie Fury has reached a similar agreement with UKAD, with the pair maintaining that they have never knowingly committed a violation.

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson has used today’s announcement to call out Anthony Joshua, tweeting “I’m coming for you boy.”

Fury has not fought since defeating Wladimir Klitschko to claim all of the heavyweight belts in November 2015.

Joshua has since gone on to beat Klitschko himself in a thrilling match at Wembley Stadium in April this year, with talk of the two brits meeting gaining momentum in recent times.

As the two years have passed since that bout in Hamburg, Fury’s deal with UK Anti-Doping means he has already served his ban, meaning he is free to resume his career subject to regaining his boxing licence.

The British Boxing Board of Control, which issues boxing licences, has agreed to the deal.

Fury had his licence suspended following the UKAD charge, which was announced on the same day as he pulled out of his rematch with Klitschko.

Today’s deal comes after Fury’s promoters, Hennessy Sports, defended the 29-year-old for not attending a UKAD hearing yesterday.

They explained that Fury was not required to attend the hearing, with Fury having his commitment to returning the ring questioned by many on social media.
