Salford City face the visit of Chesterfield this Saturday lunchtime as Peter Cklamovski’s men look to make home advantage count in a new dawn at the Peninsula.

Salford City’s first league test on home soil this season comes a week after a disappointing opening-day trip to Barnet, with first-half strikes from midfield duo Oisin Gallagher and Charlie Lakin setting up main man Kabongo Tshimanga to finish the job, which proved enough to make Adebola Oluwo’s late consolation little more than forgettable.

However, with a refreshing return to their homely shades of orange expected at the Peninsula this weekend, the Ammies hope for that extra push in their lunchtime kick-off against Chesterfield this Saturday in a bid to get off the mark for the new season.

Salford ended their last campaign in disappointing fashion, with a 3-0 defeat to Notts County at Wembley nullifying their dreams of League One football at the last hurdle, at least for another season.

But with a new-look squad and Peter Cklamovski‘s fiery new outlook, Salford’s return to league action at the Peninsula holds great potential for a shift in fortunes for the Ammies.

Chesterfield‘s arrival into this campaign last weekend was much in the same vein as Salford’s, as a visit from Fleetwood Town saw The Cod Army steal all three points courtesy of veteran ex-Manchester City forward Ched Evans.

Recent history has presented a torrid time for the Ammies when Chesterfield are in town, Salford have to go back to 2018 to reminisce on their last victory over The Spireites, in a thrilling National League encounter. A lot has changed in the meantime.

Despite the looming negatives surrounding his team’s start to the season, Peter Cklamovski remains positive ahead of his face-off against Paul Cook’s Chesterfield this weekend: “As disappointed as we were with the performance, there are still some positives to take from it that we put into the training week,” he said.

“It’s going to be a good game of football that we’re looking forward to. Most important for us is that we focus on our game, our performance, and keep building our football because we know we can score some goals and keep clean sheets.”

The Australian also expressed his excitement towards his first time in the home dugout in League Two on Saturday: “Players are buzzing, we’ve trained well, we’ve got another training session to get right, but I’m very excited to get on our pitch, play our football and keep building towards the team we dream to be.”
