Roads in Salford are expected to remain open during the city’s May Day Parade celebrations this Saturday.

Organisers say that there will be some lane blockages, but no routes will be fully closed.

The May Day Parade is due to start at 1pm at Bexley Square and is set to finish at 5pm at Sacred Trinity Church on Chapel Street.

The event will also be offering face-painting stalls and foods of the world to parade goers.

A Housing Officer in Salford said: “Salford May Day is about celebrating unity in the community, Salford’s strength in its new diversity.”

They added: “We aim to make the May Day parade a family friendly event because the labour movement represents all of Salford’s families and communities. From Peterloo to the Battle of Bexley Square to the Miners Strike, Salford has stood up to the powerful few to better the many.”
