As schools across Salford break for the holidays and families gear up for the Easter weekend, we’ve put together an itinerary of events to keep you and your little ones busy.

So whether you’re a keen walker hoping to make the most of the spring sunshine and longer days, fancy cheering on a high-energy race between hundreds of rubber ducks, or are looking for information on local church services, there’s something for everyone in Salford over the long weekend.

Our Easter guide is packed with ideas for hunting hidden eggs, exploring the city’s best art and cultural sites, and taking part in celebrations of the Christian holiday.

Churches

Salford Cathedral

Salford Cathedral, the main Catholic cathedral in the city, is offering a range of services over Holy Week and Easter, including traditional Mass and liturgies from its Chapel Street location.
On Good Friday evening, a service for the burial of Christ will take place at 7pm. An Easter vigil will be held at 8pm on Saturday, before Easter Sunday Holy Mass takes place at 11am on Sunday, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus.

Meanwhile, St James’ Church (Hope), a Church of England parish on Eccles Old Road, will hold a joint Good Friday service with Salford Elim Church at 10:30 am. An Easter Vigil will take place on Saturday at 6pm, followed by an Easter Sunday service starting at 09:30 am.

Easter Family Rave at Kargo MKT

Families can kick off the bank holiday with a high-energy morning at Kargo MKT, where BOOMCHIKKABOOM are hosting a family rave on Good Friday.

Running from 10am-12pm, the event will feature dance routines, singing, parachutes and even snow machines. It is primarily aimed at children aged 0–10, although all ages are welcome. Both adults and children will require tickets, which are free but must be booked in advance here.

Salford’s Annual Duck Race

Also on Good Friday, Salford’s Annual Duck Race takes place at Salford Quays from 12:30pm until 4pm, with the duck race beginning at 3pm.

Members of the public can sponsor a duck for £2.50 either online or on the day to win prizes.

There will also be fairground rides, food stalls and live entertainment to enjoy before the race starts.

Easter Chick Hunt at Ordsall Hall

Ordsall Hall is holding an Easter Chick Hunt that is running from every day until 16 April, every day except Fridays and Saturday’s.

The event is for all ages, with 8 chicks hiding around the hall to find.

There is no ticket required, but the trails will cost £2,The  which can be purchased at the reception desk.

Easter Hunts hosted by Salford Rangers

A sprawling lake at Clifton Country Park is home to plenty of animals.

Salford Ranger team are hosting Easter hunts across different parks in Salford.

The first will be held in Clifton Country Park on the 3rd of April, followed by Blackleach Country Park, Worsley Woods and Dukes Drive in Monton.

These events are free to attend with the encouragement that families can explore these local nature spots whilst hunting for eggs.

Easter at RHS Bridgewater Gardens

At RHS Bridgewater this Easter, families can follow clues and solve the mystery of the Easter Bunny.

Children will receive a detective pack which includes colouring pencils, secret cyphers, puzzles and colouring activities and if they solve the mystery, they are awarded with a chocolate bunny.
