Irlam FC will be looking for their first win since the 12th of February against ninth place Longridge Town today.

The Salford based side will host the tie, which will mark the side’s 36th game of the season. They currently sit in 11th place in the North West Counties Football League’s Premier Division with 50 points with a minus seven goal difference.

Their opponents on the other hand have played two more at 37 games and sit in ninth place with 52 points. Longridge have played two games more than Irlam which means victory in today’s fixture is essential.

Victory for Irlam would push them up above their opposition whilst maintaining their two game in hand advantage over them, potentially into seventh depending on other results in the league. If the fixture goes Longridge’s way, they could also push themselves up to seventh above Vauxhall Motors on 55 points.

The top half of the North West Counties Premier Division

Irlam FC aren’t on the best form, winning only one of their last five, a 2-1 home victory against Avro that came on the 12th of February. In that time they have also drawn two and lost two, most recently losing at home to Squires Gate 2-0.

Longridge’s form is not much better, with the side only winning two of their last five, drawing one and losing the other two games. The side conceded three goals in both of those defeats, which followed a 5-0 drubbing in their previous defeat at home from fourth place Charnock Richard on the 12th of February.

The home side were victorious in the previous meeting between these two sides in September, where Irlam ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Ethan Cartwright, Liam Pollitt and Andrew Langford.

Longridge will definitely be looking for a more positive outing tonight, as their goalscorer on the night Jack Anderton also saw red to cap off a pretty glum home fixture for the Lancashire based side.

This fixture is one of Irlam’s rescheduled games that was postponed back in February due to a waterlogged pitch, this is a story that we covered on Salford Now that can be read via this link.

The match will be taking place at the RG3 Digital Stadium located on Silver Street, Irlam. Tickets will be sold at the ground and will cost £6 for adults, £4 for a concession, £2 for under 12’s and under 11’s can watch for free.

Kick-off is set to be at 19:45 tonight, the 15th of March 2022.
