The Grotbags

The self-proclaimed “greatest band in the world”, The Grotbags, have been left heartbroken due to exclusion from Salford music festival, ‘Sounds from the other city‘.

The band were named the festival’s official house band for 2018 and 2019 but has been left out of this year’s line-up. They said: “We’ve been part of the festival individually and collectively for almost as long as the festival has been running and to not take part this year is a real blow.”

Regardless of the bands devastation, they still plan on making an appearance at the festival. “We’re going to go and set up a picket line at the wristband exchange. We’ll be there at 2 pm with a list of demands. We’d be happy to meet with management prior to this to agree on a resolution.”

Formed in 2015, the band officially formed as a joke in a bid to get into a local festival for free. However, since then they have packed out live sets and released a debut LP.

“Our previous appearances at Sounds from the Other City festival have been widely lauded as some of the best music that has ever been heard in Salford.

“To say we were looking forward to it is an understatement.”

The band say they have reached out to the festival but have only been met with silence despite forming a petition and their continuous efforts online to get the attention of ‘Sounds from the other city’ management.

“We’ve thought long and hard about why we may have been ignored and silently removed from our long-held position as Sounds from the Other City festival house band and we’re stumped.”

The Covid pandemic took its effect on the band. “We were all set to set the world on fire with the release of our debut LP on Dipped in Gold Records back in February 2020.

“We were able to start practicing after lockdown eased and are all set to release some new material, we had planned to debut it at this year’s Sounds from the Other City festival but due to the snub we’re going to have to rethink.”

The band hopes that fans will join them and not cross the picket line.
