Quays Councillor, Alex Warren, has voiced his concerns on the UK Government’s decision to re-introduce fracking.

Alex Warren, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group and Councillor for Salford Quays suggested fracking is not needed.

Cllr. Warren, who describes himself as an environmental & community campaigner, said: “We have got plenty of energy…We have got coal mines in Cumbria. We have the gas fields in the north sea and we have also got renewable energy.”

Last week saw Liz Truss pledge to revive fracking for the first time, since its ban in 2019 due to environmental concerns. The move is planned to reverse the effects on rising energy prices across the UK.

The UK Government see their decision as a way to reduce money spent on gas and oil from abroad.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has repeatedly taken to Twitter to discuss the controversial extraction technique.

He tweeted: “Greater Manchester has a long-held position of being against fracking in our area. We expect the government to respect our wishes.”

The general public are also showing concerns about how this plan is going to have an impact on the current situation as it seems to be a future plan rather than a current one.
